Polymer Chemist (f/m/d) - Hybrid
Req Id: 1813
State/Province: Bayern
Business: Gore Performance Solutions
Category: Engineering, Scientists & Technicians
Sub-Category: Science
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, On-site
Posting Start Date: 6/17/26
Posting End Date: 7/7/26
About the Role
The Material Research team is seeking a Polymer Chemist to develop new polymers for our next-generation non-PFAS membranes. This role will focus on advancing Gore’s polymer synthesis capabilities through a deep understanding of the polymerization-structure-property relationships that govern membrane performance. This position is ideally suited for a scientifically rigorous, commercially minded researcher who thrives at the intersection of polymer chemistry, material science, process development, and application-driven performance.
This is a temporary position for 9 months and will be located in Putzbrunn, Munich with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement.
Responsibilities
Plan and execute application-focused research to advance our understanding of high-value polymers for internal partners.
Design, synthesize, and characterize polymers at lab scale.
Establish relationships between polymerization processes, polymer structure, material properties, and performance.
Establish specifications for monomer and solvent purity requirements and validate scalability of polymerization recipes.
Develop new concepts for monomer selection and polymerization processes.
Document and communicate results through technical reports and presentations.
Help translate lab-scale polymerization concepts into scalable, commercially viable polymer synthesis processes. This includes collaborating with external partners and development teams across regions (EMEA and the US) to share knowledge and accelerate development.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Organic Chemistry, or related discipline.
Demonstrated expertise in polymer design, synthesis, and characterization (NMR, FTIR, Raman, GPC, DSC, TGA).
Hands-on experience in polymer synthesis, preferably including step-growth polymerizations and scale-up beyond bench scale.
Deep understanding of polymerization–structure–property relationships.
Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with adjacent fields such as surface science.
Knowledge of the rheology of polymer solutions.
