Mit dem Deutschen Zentrum für Astrophysik (DZA) entsteht ein neues Forschungszentrum in der Lausitz. Ziel ist es, die deutsche Astrophysik strategisch zu stärken, wissenschaftliche Exzellenz zu fördern und gleichzeitig einen aktiven Beitrag zum Strukturwandel in der Region zu leisten. Als wissenschaftliche Einrichtung mit Modellcharakter für Innovation wird das DZA neue Möglichkeiten für strategische Führungsrollen der deutschen Astrophysik schaffen und den Strukturwandel in der Lausitz nachhaltig prägen.

TÄTIGKEITSPROFIL:
Für den Aufbau und die Weiterentwicklung der IT-Infrastruktur des Deutschen Zentrums für Astrophysik (DZA) in Görlitz suchen wir einen erfahrenen DevOps Infrastructure Engineer.
Unterstützt durch das High-Performance-Computing (HPC)-Umfeld der TU Dresden arbeiten Sie in einem neu entstehenden Operations-Team, das den zuverlässigen Betrieb, die Automatisierung und die Verfügbarkeit der Systeme sicherstellt. In der aktuellen Aufbauphase haben Sie großen Gestaltungsspielraum, um eine skalierbare, moderne und nachhaltige IT-Infrastruktur mitzugestalten.
IHRE AUFGABEN:
Aufbau, Betrieb und Weiterentwicklung der IT-Infrastruktur (Virtualisierung, Containerisierung, Automatisierung)
Einrichtung und Verwaltung von virtuellen Maschinen (VMs) sowie Kubernetes-Clustern und deren Service-Konfigurationen
Automatisierung von Deployments und Infrastrukturprozessen (z. B. via Helm, GitOps, CI/CD-Pipelines)
Administration und Überwachung von Services mit Prometheus, Grafana und vergleichbaren Tools
Unterstützung bei der Integration neuer Softwarekomponenten in den produktiven Betrieb
Zusammenarbeit mit internen Fachbereichen, der TU Dresden (HPC-Umgebung) und externen Projektpartnern
Sicherstellung von Performance, Skalierbarkeit, Ausfallsicherheit und IT-Security
Dokumentation und Optimierung bestehender Prozesse im Sinne von DevOps-Prinzipien
VORAUSSETZUNGEN:
Abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium im Bereich Informatik oder ein verwandtes naturwissenschaftlich-technisches Fachgebiet
Fundiertes Verständnis für Softwareentwicklung und die daraus resultierenden Anforderungen an den Betrieb
Mehrjährige praktische Erfahrung im Aufbau und Betrieb von virtuellen Maschinen oder Kubernetes-Clustern, inklusive Service-Konfiguration und Deployment
Sicherer Umgang mit Tools wie kubeadm, kubelet, etcd, Helm, Nginx, HAProxy etc.
Versierter Umgang mit Unix/Linux-Systemen, Shell-Scripting, cron-jobs und Automatisierung von Abläufen
Erfahrung mit CI/CD-Pipelines und GitOps-Methoden
Langjährige Praxis im Einsatz von Prometheus und Grafana für Monitoring und Systemanalyse

With the German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA), a new research institution is being established in the Lusatia region. The aim is to strategically strengthen German astrophysics, promote scientific excellence, and actively contribute to the structural transformation of the region. JOB PROFILE:
To support the development and expansion of the IT infrastructure at the German Center for Astrophysics (DZA) in Görlitz, we are looking for an experienced DevOps Infrastructure Engineer.
Supported by the High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment at TU Dresden, you will work as part of a newly established Operations Team responsible for ensuring reliable operations, automation, and system availability. During this formative phase, you will have significant freedom to contribute your expertise and shape a scalable, modern, and sustainable IT infrastructure.
YOUR TASKS:
Build, operate, and continuously develop the IT infrastructure (virtualization, containerization, automation)
Set up and manage virtual machines (VMs) and Kubernetes clusters, including service configurations and deployments
Automate deployments and infrastructure processes (e.g. via Helm, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines)
Administer and monitor services using Prometheus, Grafana, and comparable tools
Support the integration of new software components into production operations
Collaborate with internal departments, TU Dresden (HPC environment), and external project partners
Ensure performance, scalability, reliability, and IT security
Document and optimize existing processes according to DevOps principles
REQUIREMENTS:
University degree in computer science or a related technical or scientific discipline
Strong understanding of software development and its operational requirements
Several years of practical experience in building and operating virtual machines or Kubernetes clusters, including service configuration and deployment
Proficiency with tools such as kubeadm, kubelet, etcd, Helm, Nginx, and HAProxy
Confident handling of Unix/Linux systems, shell scripting, cron jobs, and process automation
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows
Proven experience using Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and system analysis
