The earliest time slot is the best, you have fewer people to compete with. They ask you about your experience if you have any, if you don't they want to know how you interact with others. They might ask you about your favorite product in the store. Be prepared to name something and explain why. The job is not just one thing, you will be on the cash register, stocking, possibly cleaning the bathroom, and reorganizing the store when it gets messy.

Interview
lots of tests before a face to face interview, then an "experience" day, which is just a quick tour of the store, then you wait for about 48 hours to find out if it's yes or no, a word of warning, they judge you on what they perceive is your physical ability, sadly this often means that age comes into it and it there's a younger candidate then you lose

I applied online. I interviewed at ALDI (Coventry, England) in May 2024
Interview
It was good. Quite relaxing atmosphere, with a casual setting. Some people had group interviews, mine was one on one. It may seem casual but it is still an interview nonetheless and should be taken seriously.
