I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon
Interview
2 telephonic interviews - one with the recruiter and another with the recruiting manager. This is followed by 4 in-person interviews. All the interviews were positive and based on the amazon leadership principles.
I would recommend that candidates have examples handy however sometimes it is best to be spontaneous. If you cant come up with an example say so - it doesnt go against you, provided you can give a solid reason for that.

Most were - tell me about a time kind and based on getting a response around the leadership principles.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Amazon in Jul 2014
Interview
Received an e-mail from recruiting after being referred internally. There were many e-mails back sand forth to schedule a time, but once the process started it was great. Communication from recruiting was smooth and transparent. I had two phone interviews followed by two in-person interviews (with just one person) and then a full day of interviews with 6 people total.

Question 1
I was surprised that (after being told by recruiting it would not be this way) every single person basically asked me the exact same 2-3 questions, which were: "tell me about a time when you used data to support a decision", "Tell me about a time when you took an unpopular stance", and "tell me about a time when something you did made a big impact on the company".
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Amazon in Apr 2011
Interview
Applied online and received an e-mail in a couple of weeks asking to schedule a phone interview. Phone interview was direct with hiring manager and went great. I was invited onsite for all day 1:1 interviews with customers, peers and others. The day went well from my perspective and I received a lot of positive feedback from interviewers throughout the day. The only outlier was one customer who repeatedly asked me questions as if I was an internal candidate. It was disconcerting, but didn’t lead me to believe that the interview wasn’t going well. I ended the day with the hiring manager; we had a good meeting and all signs were positive.
One week later as I hadn’t heard anything negative or positive I contacted the recruiter to find out the status. He promptly called me back and apologized for me not hearing anything. He assured me that they were still very interested in me as a candidate and promised to get back to me the next week.
Well here it is 23 days later and I’ve heard nothing from them. Unfortunately, they lack on the follow-through and closure with a candidate who has taken a day off from their job to interview with them. Because I’m in HR, I find it particularly bad form to not close out with a candidate who has been to onsite interviews.
I wish all companies had better closure processes for candidates and unfortunately Amazon doesn’t stand out as an employer of choice because they are deficient in this area as well.
