I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at American Express in Aug 2011
Interview
Had an initial phone screening with HR, and was invited to come in for an in-person interview where I met seperately with a director and manager for 30 minutes each. I was told that there would be a superday early during the next week but in the end I was not invited. I thought the interview actually went quite well but got the feeling they were not convinced that my experience was directly relevant. Also, they have a blue office structure (I think they called it blue) where no one has their own desk and office. They all just sit in different places each day. Seemed wierd.

Interview
Behavioral questions, but the typical ones. More a situational behavior interview. What would you do if given an assignment that is undefinable? Do you work best on teams or individually? Tell me about yourself? Interviewer clearly did not listen to my answers and didn't seem to be paying attention.

Interview
I had two phone interviews and an onsite interview where I met with 5 individuals. It was mainly behavioral type questions. Pretty standard. The people at Amex are very friendly and intelligent. The company culture is very open and relaxed, and there is a real big emphasis on work life balance. Advice is to really ask a lot of questions and show that you are truly interested in the position. Get as much information as possible so you can make an informed decision. Be prepared and know how your work experience / education can fit in line with the position and the organization's goals.
