I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Applied Materials (Santa Clara, CA) in Feb 2024
Interview
Four 1 on 1 meetings with four people, they work in the same group. I introduced myself and research experience, followed by some related questions and behaviors questions. Everyone asked that why do you choose this company.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Applied Materials (Santa Clara, CA) in Mar 2024
Interview
One of my worst interview experiences ever! Applied to this position somewhere during January 2024. It was designated as "Process Engineer - Advanced Degree (Santa Clara, CA)", basically it would start as a cohort program to train fresh grads. Got an email with a questionnaire from a recruiter and replied immediately (within 30 mins). After that never heard from them for 2-3 weeks. The first round interview was then randomly scheduled by another recruiter. But the date and the day of the interview that were mentioned did not correlate. I reached out to this person immediately, but the person never replied. After waiting a couple of days and sending another follow-up email, I emailed the first recruiter. Only then did this second recruiter reply with another date. Not to mention that this person never confirmed if I was available on that date or not; just gave a date that suited them. After that, a couple of time slots were switched (and again never asked me if I was available) before the first round was finally scheduled. I never had the contact details of the person who would conduct the interview as well.
1st round: A manager came, and he asked if I was okay to do overtime on weekends and nights. Then went ahead with his list of questions. He was not much interested in me or my skills; just needed to get his questions answered.
After the first round, I sent thank you notes, etc., to the recruiter (as I did not have the manager's contact), but there was dead silence for about a month. Suddenly, the second round (which consisted of 2 separate rounds) was scheduled.
2nd round: I log in to the interview, and no one shows up. I waited for 30 minutes, but no one was there. I emailed the recruiter, only to hear, "Oh, this person might be busy today". No apologies or anything. The interview was rescheduled again, finally someone shows up but surprise! This was not the person who was supposed to come. The interviewer starts asking me all business questions instead of technical ones. The following round also happened soon after that with a director, and this was the only person in the interview who treated me like a human.
