I applied online. I interviewed at Capital One (New York, NY) in Sep 2023
Interview
First round was with a recruiter. These were the questions I got. Tell me about yourself? Why are you interested in this role? What is your process in designing a product? Tell me about a time when you worked with others on a team. 2nd round was a mini case, no behavioral questions. It will be on either the Capital One Shopping browser extension, the Capital One Virtual Card Numbers widget or the Capital One Mobile App. If you pass this round then the next round is a super day (4 hours of interviews in one day with breaks in-between). After that is a behavioral interview with a senior person where they deep dive on your experiences.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I got the Cap One Shopping Browser Exten Case. It's not like the traditional produce sense cases where you are improving a feature or product, they just go straight into questions. First question I was asked was, beyond the revenue stream what value does this product bring to Capital One? (Why would capital one build this product) As a PM for Capital One, you want to personalize offers via Capital One Shopping through targeted email offers. Identify which products you would send to customers to increase the number of purchases with a referral link. Then I was shown a draft email and asked how I would improve it. Then I was shown some metrics for before and after changing the personalized marketing emails and asked what my observations were. Those were all the questions. I didn't pass this round.
Interview process started with an online Assessmsent first, HR Screening , then mini case study. Case study involved data review, giving feedback on how results could be improved. You will get asked technical questions (how would you build a certain application so have UI and Design questions practiced.
Frist round included a virtual culture assessment. Online scenarios and options of what to chose so that they can see the types of decisions you make, not necessarily how you make these decisions.

Interview
Pros: Interviewers were sharp and the Power Day format was polished. The case scenarios were interesting to work through.
Cons: They gave some expectations going in, but what they told you didn't actually matter. The things they said to focus on weren't really what got judged, so you never truly knew what the success bar was. The Ace the Case and product presentation prep felt surface-level and basically gave no concrete detail on how to actually succeed. And the decision came after the timeline they told me, with 0 feedback after a full day of interviews.
Advice to management: If you set expectations, make them line up with what you actually evaluate on. Make the prep specific instead of generic, honor the timelines you set, and give final-round people at least a line or two of feedback. The gap between what's said and what's scored is the throughline of the whole thing.
