I went to the store I wished to work at, and picked up an application. I then filled out application that day, and spoke with the hiring manager. She conducted a basic interview about availability and desired duration of employment (e.g. summer months can work more hours vs. school year). It was a very easy process.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Kroger in Aug 2013
Interview
I put in an online application and they contacted me within a week. The interview took place in the HR office at the front of the store with a very nice lady who made the interview very smooth. There were no specific interview questions and she had to leave a few times to deal with people in store and on the phone. I did a drug test on the spot after she gave me a choice between getting carts and being a cashier/bagger and then she gave a date to come in for orientation and paperwork.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There were no specific questions about behavior or character that I can remember but the online application gave copious scenarios for which you could tell they were looking for specific responses.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Kroger in Sep 2012
Interview
The interview process is fairly simple. There weren't any questions that were difficult. They ask if you're in school and if its your first job ( for most applicants the answer is yes). They are more so trying to get a feel of your personality. If you get the interview more than likely you get the job unless you are off-putting of fail the drug test. The drug test is just a saliva swab.
