During my interview process at Microsoft for a software engineer position, I first underwent an initial screening call, followed by several technical interviews where my coding skills, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge of computer science fundamentals were thoroughly tested. This was complemented by a behavioral interview to assess my cultural fit and soft skills. I also encountered system design questions and, in some cases, was given take-home assignments. Was a typical first round recruiter screen - pretty straightforward but didn't end up getting moved vforwards. Prompt, Professional and overall a good experience. They asked me about my background, explained the role and it was with the recruitment team.
