      Senior Product Manager Interview

      Oct 3, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Moz in Sep 2023

      Interview

One of the worst phone screens I have ever been on. Ghosted the first time and had to reschedule. When they finally got on the video chat, they interrupted me constantly. Interviewer didn't like my lack of eye contact … but I was just typing and taking notes like everyone does … so what’s the big deal? Unwilling to share details on the benefits. Unaware of the California pay transparency laws. Not supportive of my long term goals of going back to school. Time hog — scheduled 45 minutes but only took 20 minutes … time in my schedule I could have chatted with someone else. It’s like the process is intentionally bad just to measure your mental stamina.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Proud project. But they had no idea what a product manager much less an AI-based product manager actually does. So their questions were embarrassingly shallow.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Moz (Seattle, WA) in Jun 2015

      Interview

Applied online. Received a request to schedule 30 minute phone interview. 2 weeks later got a request to schedule in-person interview for half day. Met department head via google talk which went fine. Then had three two people interviews at 45 minute each (included other PM's, Dev and Dev managers). All three pairs ran out of questions first 15 minutes. I ended up asking the next 30 minutes everything about the product and company. The interviewers were straight forward, telling me "as you can see this is our first time interviewing a pm". Last I met the hiring manager who did not have a single question to ask. By that time I ran out of any possible questions that I could ask the hiring manager so the meeting was only 15 minute short. Got an email with denial 1 week later. They have nice benefits and a cool office. Too bad they didnt ask any real Scrum/PM questions. I really doubt they could make a correct decision without asking proper questions.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

No real PM questions or situational. Only asked if I worked with team that had a bad apple. Few general agile questions. The rest were tell me about your self.
