I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at VMware (Bengaluru) in Jun 2013
Interview
Interview was scheduled directly through employee reference.
My friend, who was working in vmware has forwarded my resume to HR.
First, I got call from HR and then he confirmed date with me.
They called 4 to 5 people on that day and 2 vacancies were there.
Scheduled time was on 2.00pm and I gave my first round at 4.15pm. We almost waited for 2 hours.
They have send one 1-2 year experience employee from one technical team. There were three technical rounds and then formal HR round.
1. Data structure and algorithmic questions.
2. Java / C++ based questions.
3. General technical round.
Unfortunately, I haven't cleared first round.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at VMware (Bengaluru) in Mar 2013
Interview
My hiring process had close to 10 rounds of interview including the collabedit, face to face and telephonic conversations.
The colledit rounds are direct. You get a question and you answer it. Mostly code based questions, Your answers are either entirely correct or entirely wrong. You wont get questions which would be may be types.
For me the telephonic round were the worst as I am not that much of a speaker over the phone but i managed it with to the point answers. You dont want to let the interveiwers mind wander with your long essay type answers over the phone. Same applies in face to face questions.
Be prepared to write a lot as your answers will be maintained as reviews given to the recruiter or hiring panel. Indentation, comments, handwriting(?) can go a long way.

Question 1
The job i was being interviewed for required me to have deep knowledge of the systems. I did not expect that level of detail. I was asked many diffcult question in that sense, but I managed to answer most although not entirely convincingly.
