Pros

Worked in a smaller office with great deal of flexibility. Had a good manager, and thus got exciting projects to work on. Some of the people there were brilliant and thus it is easy to suck in lots of knowledge. The hours were not long, and the area the office is situated is fairly nice. There was a casual attitude to most things. Followed an Agile method of building software, which was nice in that one could hear about the progress of other projects. I was given work right away when I started, and there was little siting around time.

Cons

In the end there was a lot of overhead to get access to do certain things. Senior management often did not promote the best people, and did not make the best decisions. It was very cumbersome to use a different platform than was already in existence. The level of knowledge of the people was very high, it just seemed that management did not utilize their skills to the highest degree. In addition the perks were not that great as they would be in a financial company or a start up company. There was little socialization outside of the work place.

Pros

People you work with are pretty cool and its easy to make friends. Accenture seems to hire mostly hard working people who actually have personalities, which is cool. Projects are pretty diverse and all the perks - healthy vacation time, rewards programs, almost weekly sponsored happy hours, etc - can make for a fun experience. Sr Managers and Execs are usually very approachable and will talk to you about anything. Accenture has a good brand name and hopefully having it on your resume reaps returns later on.

Cons

Pay is pretty good when your first starting out, but subsequent increases have been miniscule. The laddering process for promotions, like many here have mentioned, is prone to bias and not done effectively in my opinion. Your life pretty much depends on like one Sr Exec somewhere who probably hasnt ever worked with you. As an analyst, most of the work is very low level, and doesnt command anyone's repect and attention. Accenture keeps hiring liberal arts/business majors and tries to force them to do technical roles which they dont want to do. Every analyst wants to get into the strategy group, which isnt even that good compared with the industry.

Pros

The great people - truly intelligent and people savvy. I've worked at several companies (both in industry and through consulting) and have found that Accenture is truly unique in how it's able to manage 180,000 people. The internal knowledge sharing at Accenture is also stellar compared to other companies I've worked for (and also compared to other consultancies from what I've heard through others). Additionally, the ability to work in different industries and in vastly diverse roles (dependent on how aggressive you are at networking) is also a great reason to work for Accenture. Hands down, I would return to the firm if given the chance.

Cons

Long hours, long hours, long hours. The work/life balance at Accenture (and is just the dogma of consulting) is non-existent. When you have a deliverable that's due, you have to burn the midnight oil, lose your personal life, and age beyond your years. Since there are so many intelligent, type A people at Accenture, it's hard to come out as outstanding during review time. Even though you may be a mega superstar on all your projects you may come out with just a meets expectations rating at year end review. It's definitely a hard concept to digest - knowing that you're working for peanuts (but you do get awesome experience!)
