Pros

Amazon is a customer centric company. Whatever you do in Amazon, you should think of your customer.

Cons

Nobody will help you with anything. Everybody tries to find a way to promotion and one person from a team can be promoted during a review period. So, this basically makes everybody hate each other. You may not even find a colleague to go to lunch with. Even worst, if you are good engineer, everybody will be looking to see you fail or creating an image of failure for you. Thus, everybody tries to use politics as much as they can.

Pros

You'll work with a lot of smart people that you can learn from. Lots of great tools at your disposal. And you'll likely work on something at a massive scale, which is an interesting challenge.

Cons

Your experience will vary greatly from team to team. On call can become very inconvenient, though on-call also varies greatly from team to team. Management tends to prefer new features to polishing existing products (though that's common to many companies), and tech debt can pile up quickly.

Pros

Exposure to complex distributed architectures and wonderful internal tools and deployment platforms. Exposure to internet scale and you have build the ability to design, develop an deploy features at that scale. Ability to move around team but you may end up in deeper s#!% than you were in.

Cons

Bureaucratic, I unfortunately had the worst managers in current teams, Previous managers were great. Absence of transparency into why certain people do better than others financially. In reality they seem to be doing nothing at all. ONCALL S$%$#. Since instant rewards and appreciation is absent, kills the competitiveness in you.
