Pros

Fast paced, smart individual contributors, insane growth.

Cons

Weak managers from top to bottom. Zero leadership but plenty of punishment to go around for violating policies that no one even knows exist.

Pros

-Amazon has its hands into everything and this goes for all its business units. Whatever your profession or career level, you will become experienced with all facets of your job. -Great compensation package but also known as "Golden Handcuffs". -You are given a lot of responsibility and control over your department. You have a big impact wherever you are.

Cons

-There is no work/life balance (60-70 h/w) and due to the aforementioned "Golden Handcuffs", you are not given much choice in adjusting any imbalance. -The Amazon culture is Darwinian. This has led to significant levels favoritism. -I was forced to stack rank my direct reports and place the lower half on performance plans regardless of their actual performance.

Pros

If you see a problem, no one is going to stop you from grabbing it and developing an improvement

Cons

Highly unlikely that your pro-active efforts to fix a problem will benefit you personally. I witnessed manager directly benefiting (promotion) from other peoples initiative. Totally ripped off the people who developed the ideas, claiming them as his own. As George Bush Jr tried to say, "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."
