Pros

Amazon is a huge tech company that is revolutionizing different businesses and pretty much redefining those. E.g. shopping (Amazon Go), delivery (Amazon Flex), Cloud Computing (AWS) etc.

Cons

This is only based on experience in SCOT (Supply Chain Optimization Technologies) organization. -> Extremely hierarchical organization with too many reporting layers. -> Managers are almost untouchable and your personal development and career is extremely limited (if not screwed up) when having a bad or inexperienced manager. Only option is trying to change org or leave Amazon entirely. -> Unclear performance review and evaluation. -> Too many uncompleted (not fully automated) projects resulting in lots of maintenance work and frustration.

Cons

Amazon has grown so big now, it is important we retain our culture and inclusiveness. There is certainly work needed in this space to ensure we remain what we are today as we become bigger and bigger.

1. Fast pace - both in terms of decision making and execution. The company does realize the concept of reversibility for certain decisions 2. Clearly defined and operational guiding principles - Amazon's leadership principles provide clear guidance on how we make decisions everyday. There are discussions and brainstorming but one knows what is valuable e.g. customer obsession 3. Exciting work - the type of work is super exciting. You can directly see a global impact of the work you're doing which is incredibly motivating

Cons

At times figuring out when to stop is the hardest thing. There's so much one can do about the work one is doing but it's upto a person to decide when to call it off a day and take some time out for personal life. Balancing work-life is the art that is difficult for those who haven't figured out.
