Pros

Amazon gives leaders a great deal of ownership. You get a lot of flexibility to define the direction of your team as you see fit. Also, the company is huge with many opportunities, so you can switch between roles and areas quite easily.

Cons

The culture of Amazon is, well, pathetic. The company uses "leadership principles" to justify everything; and the principles are anything but objective so they can be bent at will to make a case for hiring or firing someone at any time. The company has gotten incredibly fat and these days I spend 80% of my time playing politics rather than doing anything that adds value to end customers. Also, much of the mid-level leadership at Amazon is incredibly poor. It's amazing to see grown adults behaving like children with temper tantrums; this is compounded by the fact that most leaders are lacking in technical depth so can only talk about abstract concepts rather than have a real tech discussion.
