Pros

this is one of the best places in SV for folks who want to work hard & accelerate quickly in their careers (i.e. larger scope, faster path to TL + manager). the pace here is VERY fast - as a restless person this is the perfect environment for me to see the return on a lot of effort. i think particularly for junior folks or people who have been in bigger tech environments & want to experience a more frictionless environment, this will be a good fit. also the snacks & drinks are god-tier.

Cons

because you will be rewarded for hard work, it can be easy to burn out here. you should only join applied if you trust your own ability to self-regulate. there is lots of work to go around here, so you have to be conscious about protecting your time. your requests will be respected, but you're your own best advocate.

Pros

Everyone there is incredibly smart and motivated, leadership knows how to deliver value to customers and make money. If you work hard and show that you can deliver there is a lot of opportunity for growth.

Cons

Burnout is common if you do not protect your time. Long hours can be the norm and sometimes required if you want to grow.

Pros

Applied has extremely talented and friendly engineers who are all highly driven by what they work on. It's great to be in person and get to learn and collaborate with such motivated and smart people, and I've learned so much about the automotive industry and engineering practices

Cons

Applied requires you to have or develop really good time management and prioritization skills. Since the business and the tech moves so quickly, you can feel overwhelmed by the amount of work that you're trying to take on. You learn quickly that this doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be doing everything all the time, but rather that you have to be able to make quick prioritization decisions off the cuff and manage your own time.
