      Salaries and benefits are generous; telecommuting is encouraged especially in IT ; large company with multitude of opportunities throughout the company; employees are friendly and helpful and have been there for a long time

      Cons

      Poorly managed and lagging behind competition; consistent management turmoil and quarterly layoffs; lagging stock price and options; merger with Varian Semiconductor left power strife that is undermining company values and opening company up to more turmoil; greater than average turnover of employees

      Pros

      Engineers are for the most part quite intelligent and easy to get along with. Many projects were quite interesting and cutting-edge. Good benefits package compared to similar companies (401K matching, employee stock purchase plan, health care).

      Cons

      Too many reorganizations -- I had a new manager every year. Bad project management in the division I worked in -- frequent late cancellations, scrambling. Office politics also frequently got in the way of project completion. During downturns, the cost-cutting was to the point of ridiculousness.
