      Pros

      Everyone you talk to will tell you that the culture at BGI is great. For the most part, the culture is fair and respectful. There are not a lot of "investment banking" types walking around the hallways. If you have a good idea, it will be heard and BGI will give you enough leeway to pursue an idea.

      Cons

      It can be tough to make a lateral move from one group to the next. Whatever group you're in, you tend to stay in that group for a very long time. Also, I've heard people say that there are too many PhD types running the business when there should be more MBA types. Leave the research up to the PhDs and the business management to the MBAs.

      Pros

      Friendly welcoming people (helped by the "no jerk" policy)! Emphasis on teamwork - only looking out for yourself is not accepted. Completely different atmosphere to the investment banks where I have worked previously - no hire and fire! Fantastic graduate development programme and ongoing learning schemes. They emphasise a balance between work and family life and the compensation/benefits package is almost best on the street! London Graduate salaries in particular. Ability to work abroad and move roles is an added benefit.

      Cons

      Only recently considered to be a top tier investment house. Has grown so quickly that the back office/infrastructure occasionally struggles to keep up.

      Pros

      Excellent hours worked and a willingness to allow employees time off when necessary Very smart and skilled management Good people work here, which makes the workplace fun and invigorating Good renumeration

      Cons

      In IT? It's a bank, so the focus isn't on IT staff, but business people. There's often not enough work to keep you busy, there's a LOT of downtime here, which is nice at first, but then becomes boring.
