Bloomberg -- don't have a life outside the office

Pros

Good pay and benefits, great offices, and great people to work with. But, not a place to work if you want to have a life outside the office. There is lots of corporate talk about how they support work-life balance, but when push comes to shove, they really don't.

Cons

When Mike Bloomberg came back to the company after his last term as NY mayor, it became a company in flux. It doesn't seem like it has a clear vision of its future (beyond making lots of money and trying to keep Mike happy).

Pros

Good salary, amazing training, very smart people around

Cons

Sales and Analytic department is a nightmare. You are on live chat with client that are constantly yelling at you. You have no choice , you need to deal with it. And this is not all. Your metric are based on call% (feel like to be in a call center) , number of chat resolved and also duration (how long it takes to solve the issue). So it's not just the stress of upset clients but also having your team leader eyes on you because you are taking too long to get that resolve. Your manager will review your answers and put yo down sometimes for really no reason. At teh end you are so frustrated that you really just want to leave. Be very careful when you answer clients and how you are treating them because everyone can check what you are answering.

Pros

- Working with smart people, most of them are ready to help - Well furnished pantry where you can grab a coffee with colleagues - Lot of training options for you to learn (even if not directly related to your working domain) - Possibility to move within the company (change team) - Get to travel quite a lot depending how much you are involved in outside-work activities - Philanthropy: if you like it, you can get involved into helping the world - Bloomberg matches most of the financial donation you make - Flexibility. If you have a good reason you can have a flexible schedule (6am - 4pm, for example) - In general, management will try to please employees (as well as interns)

Cons

- Long hours of work, not ideal for work/life balance - Team Leader management is sometimes flaky - Performance Review Evaluation doesn't seem to be consistent between teams, which make it unfair in some cases - You need to be ready to show-off to make sure you get noticed and get a fair review at the end of the year
