Pros

If you are early in your career and can sacrifice a year, the name will look great on your resume. Tons of unhealthy processed snacks & fruit

Cons

Every single moment is micromanaged from the moment you enter the building or log in to the terminal. This is not a company where you could be yourself. If you have a corporate background and are a by the book person you might do well here, but if you enjoy a healthy work environment where there is support and flexibility this is not the place for you. They have an open desk space and require you to come in the office 3 days a week. Employees are constantly getting COVID. Instead of doing something about this either changing the floor plan, alternating days to come in so theres never too many people in the office at the same time, they just believe "you'll get through it" words used by a manager here. Not to mention you will be expected to use your own laptop while you work from home. This company generating millions a day expects thier employees to use their own laptops for work. They believe its a privilege for you to work there and will treat you as such. If you want more than a company doing bare minimum for you, this is not the place for you.

Pros

Free food and drinks. Nice toilets.

Cons

Do not get sucked in by their sales pitch of being progressive, modern and 'sexy'. The free food, sexy office and fake desire to be progressive wears off very quickly when reality sets in as to how the company's condition is after you walk through the door and uncover how they truly operate. Fundamentally, Bloomberg is a wolf dressed in sheep's clothing. In this case, it's dressed as a Google-wannabe. The reasons why: *Dated systems and practices *Inexperienced and stale managers with no substance who do not have a clue, they get to their positions because they know how to play the politics. They aren't SMEs, do not know how to manage, guide or lead teams/people. *Juniors and managers talk in condescending and elementary ways, they teach you how to suck eggs. This is probably due to the fact that the talent in Bloomberg is actually quite poor, so they like to sound more intelligent than they actually are. *All lip service, just be good at talking, then you can get far. *All the technical expertise you have are not really highly regarded, as they prefer old ways of working and aren't receptive to change for better efficiency - therefore not progressive. *Juniors are overconfident and lacks substance but manages to get praise because they know how to talk but in reality they do not hold much technical expertise and crumble when questioned. Juniors tend to fluke their roles. It creates a political 'Lord of the Flies' working environment. *Not as team orientated as they claim, a lot of people are individual contributors - they are focused within their own silo operations and don't really care to think of others. *Not flat as they claim - there are structures within their sub-teams. *Micro-management - tracks when you come into the office and leave *Long working hours 8-6

Pros

The office is very nice, Bloomberg requires long hours but pays very well. It's a good name in the industry, so helpful for your career beyond the company

Cons

- Company works employees very hard and has little actual regard for health and wellbeing. People get burnt out at alarming rates, but no changes are made within teams where this is rife - one would think you want to look at management if people keep being squeezed till they break? - Not a lot of flexibility for mothers or consideration for pregnant women. Work days at Bloomberg are longer than normal (you have to sign a waiver when you join), but requests for flexibility on very early starts can be flatly refused. - Very little career progression, few opportunities to move. Managers blatantly ignore instructions from above to help employees develop and try a new beat. Not meritocratic, either managers like you and stop you from moving to other teams or they don't like you and also stop you from moving teams. Bonkers. - Too many managers, not enough journalists in the newsroom. Tend to promote favourites, who are very bad at managing. Not always a very fair place to work.
