Pros

- Great social life - Mostly relaxed working conditions

Cons

- Incredibly behind the times - Project managers are hopeless - A promotion gets you basically no pay rise - You have to apply for your own promotion, no recognition from management - Most new IP never sees the light of day - The majority of the workforce are grads who leave after they realise there won't be any meaningful payrises - There are very very few 25-40 year old professionals, no one sticks around and the talent is lost. Everyone has either been there for 20 years or is a grad. - Ridiculous level of corporate mentality, think inspirational posters on every wall, "experience the commitment" is ground into your soul, massively out of touch with other tech corporations such as Google and Apple - It's just not a trendy company, more like somewhere you go for an easy life and no prospects of advancement or making any difference

Pros

None to mention at this moment.

Cons

1) Terrible/ unethical process when on the bench. You’re made redundant if you’re in the bench for more than 8 weeks! This is very stressful, demeaning and just down right wrong. It also negates the fact that you’re a permanent employee and treats you as a temporary staff. It’s the number 1 reason I left the firm. 2) Promotions are non existent. You can get a promotion but won’t get a pay rise. There are people who have been at the firm for 4 years with 2 promotions but still on entry level pay. 3) Culture at the firm is just not meant for someone ambitious to grow. You will stagnate in your career at CGI.

Scotland/Glasgow - IT Staff - stay away

Pros

* Central location. * A consultancy that has a base office for developers.

Cons

90+ Developers have resigned over the last 14 months (20 in the last 10 weeks) from Glasgow's two delivery centers (ODSC, Java Development Center) leaving 18 staff total. 1) Salary - average 35-50% below industry average across all levels. 2) Bonuses are denied by moving financial targets. 3) Offices are jokingly referred to as "dystopian looking" 4) 2 Senior VPs purposefully sabotaging the departments, bullying staff at all levels (5/8 senior staff were off with stress during 1 month). 5) Unsanitary working conditions (thick dust on desks and hair balls on carpets) and utilitarian with (literally) no storage. 6) Offices are never large enough for all the staff (staff work full time in the kitchen). Plants are not allowed in CGI offices as they are "unhygienic". 7) You may be told to "bring devices from home" to meet contract requirements. 8) Project mangers routinely out-number developers due to corporate bureaucracy and standard billing practices: a recent project had 1 Developer and 8 PMs. 9) You are expected to work on new I.P. in your spare time - unpaid, with no rewards for projects that lead to business. VPs have refused any action being taken on the above, despite 4+ years worth of reports/complaints/requests for assistance.
