Pros

There are a lot of young, smart bright folks there with varied interests. If you have any kind of obscure hobby, you'll likely find someone who will want to play with you on the weekends. Also, the cafeteria is fantastic. I've been around the block a few times, and even the vending machine fare is changed out regularly and fresh.

Cons

Long hours and sometimes unreasonable work demands. They don't seem to care about family. For example, I once brought my 3-year-old in when my wife had an emergency at work, and they hassled me before I even swiped my badge. My manager even talked to me about it the next day and told me it was inappropriate.

Pros

Significant business challenges and pace of work provides great opportunities for individual professional growth. There is a high caliber of individual talent throughout the company. Dell is a great place to be a great performer. There is a high degree of pay differentiation which means great employees are paid well and lesser employees are not. Recent turnover from down cycle has created many opportunities that did not exist before when turnover was very low and fewer opportunities presented themselves. The company has been through a rough couple years although things seem to be turning around, which makes for a better work environment.

Cons

There is a lot more demanded of each person versus employees in similar positions at other companies. There seems to be a culture of constant takeaways where pay and benefits keep declining. The recent down performance has taken its toll on employee morale and many have become very negative. Recent headcount cuts and pay cuts have added to the negativity. There is a lot more downside for bad employees than good ones. Best employees are still rewarded and have opportunities where average to below average ones are not. A high degree of uncertainty is still a problem as many employees do not know what to expect next.

Pros

Excellent Compensation package. Many opportunities for learning and growth, especially suited for ambitious and hard working young individuals. Depending of group or area of work, can be also a rewarding experience being exposed to the details of the enterprise, and dealing on a global scale.

Cons

Must dedicate entire self to the company and management chain in order to succeed and impress enough to gain promotions. Involves long hours and sometimes tedious work. Not totally inspiring and not particulary rewarding for indivualistic types.
