Pros

Ernst and Young has been a great place to begin a career. You are surrounded by bright and motivated personnel. There are numerous career opporntunities from audit to tax to transaction advisory. EY puts a large emphasis on flexibility and employees are able to take time off work when necessary to meet personal committments. The firm has also placed an emphasis on inclusivness which makes everyone feel an intergral part of the team and organization. The variety of clients from SEC to smaller, privately held clients gives employees a great variety of experiences.

Cons

This may go without saying but hours can be difficult during busy season. At times, recognition does not line up with effort.

Pros

Opportunity to work with great people, a lot of knowledge sharing abilities, and ability to grow professionally due to the number of people and knowledge available. I had a great opportunity to utilize many of my technical skills and all of my soft skills. The leadership in some areas was very willing to mentor and help. The ability to work with Fortune 50 organizations both domestically and internationally provided excellent learning experiences. We were paid well for our skills. The number of personal and professional relationships that I've been able to establish and maintain will be continue to be critical to my career. Overall, my experience was rewarding and worth some of the personal sacrifices.

Cons

As I highlighted, there were many plus sides of working for Ernst & Young. The downsides were the requirement to travel over 100% in some cases that can put a strain on personal and family lives. There is constant commitment to work life balance however many individuals in leadership were not on board with this creating missed opportunities personally as well as creating stress levels that were unacceptable at times. Promotionally opportunities are there and based on your execution and performance but there are still a lot of "circles" that you have to be a part of politically and socially to truly make it to a senior leadership position.
