Pros
Pretty campus (this is where the money goes), most students are from the Northeast, students are friendly and sincere.
Cons
Low pay in relation to comp institutions, adjuncts had to unionize recently to be treated with dignity, so compensation may improve. Benefits are basic. There is little support with regard to basic tech equipment, library resources are lacking for researchers, and bookshelves are hard to get (i.e., you have to negotiate those). If you are visiting or are limited term, you will be ignored, which was fine by me. Despite what the website says, the school has an administrative ethos of a second-tier state university, not of a private liberal arts college, though it markets itself as such. A lot of virtue signaling with regard to social issues, but no real effort to recruit or retain faculty in those areas or to support programs. (This is important for some people.) Elon is not worth your time unless you really need a job or are accepting a tenured chair position. Try to work at Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, or High Point if you can. I would not recommend Elon, especially for early career scholars of color. Mid-career or senior scholars of color may be able to negotiate the faculty culture without much hassle, however.
