Pros
Large organisation, constantly changing with times and industry. Good salary and benefits. A great place for contractors - your contract will be renewed year after year.
Cons
This is a review about E.ON IT specifically and not other part of the business. Everything is dictated by German HQ leading to IT management structure that has no power, motivation or drive. In my 7 years in a particular role, I have seen very few mid-manager move up. E.ON IT is unable to move with times to adopt new technologies which can save time and money. They're still working to waterfall methodology and running legacy systems from 90s. COMPLETE lack of progression for people wanting to move around. If, for example, you join as a developer, it is almost impossible (and unheard of) to transition in to a PM, BA, TM role. You WILL be pigeon-holed and any attempts to move up or across will be futile and strongly resisted. I personally know many many people who have been doing the same job for 10+ years and cannot move up or across. Management has a policy to keep permanent to a minimum and run projects using agencies and IT partners and contractors. Some projects completely run by contractors with 85-90% external staff. Large number of contractors have remained in company for 10+years. Not a company (IT) that encourages ambition, drive or enthusiasm. Thinking outside the box is discouraged. Staff satisfaction has been low for several years. This is not a review by a disgruntled employee - just observed facts.
