Pros

The pay and benefits were comfortable with base access and a "bonus" each month of a housing allowance and cost of living differential. 401K was matched well enough. Gas was half price due to the SOFA tax-free status and on-base benefits. Colleagues were mostly positive and respectful.

Cons

-No room for upward mobility. -The customer lacked any leadership skills in all critical places which made the job thankless and it felt like one was constantly having their job hung over their head. -In order to try to keep the contract, rules were being liberally interpreted by the customer which caused undue stress and responsibility on contractor employees. -As a result, the workplace was as hostile as I've experienced, but if you can shut up and smile and simply take the paycheck, then you will be OK.

Pros

Meaningful Mission: Supporting defense communications and multi-vendor networks provides a high sense of purpose and unique technical challenges. SOFA Benefits: Working under the SOFA agreement offers excellent logistical support, tax advantages and an easy transition to living in Germany. Work-Life Balance: The environment generally respects personal time allowing you to enjoy living abroad and exploring Europe. Modern Tech Stack: Opportunities to work with advanced network automation tools like Cisco Catalyst Center and Python keep your skills relevant.

Cons

Bureaucracy: Navigating government regulations, contract requirements and military command structures can slow down project implementations. Limited Local Mobility: Career advancement within the specific location can sometimes be constrained by fixed contract headcounts. On-Call Rotation: Depending on the specific mission requirements, odd hours or on-call shifts are occasionally necessary to maintain 24/7 uptime.

Pros

Great company that provides strong support to its employees. One of the biggest pros is the strong internal hiring culture, where current employees are often preferred for transfer opportunities into other roles.

Cons

Because it is such a large organization, it can sometimes lose the close-knit feel of a smaller company.
