Pros
When it’s busy, it’s good fun riding around on electric scooters. They can be reasonably nippy at traffic lights. Paid weekly. Good comradeship between riders. My store manager was great. The gear is bright purple, and yellow, so you are more visible on the road which makes you feel safer. Paid by the hour no matter the number of orders that were coming in. All equipment, except bike boots, were supplied. I enjoyed working with people who had different backgrounds and outlooks on life to me.
Cons
Loads of pressure to be fast, despite saying safety is paramount. Any bonuses are almost impossible to achieve for part timers. Customers almost never tip. Earned £1 in tips for 4 months worth of deliveries working between 10-20 hours a week. Ratings are based on a customer’s entire ordering experience, yet couriers got all the blame despite many issues being out of their control. Have to work shifts that you ultimately have minimal control over. Got a payroll query? You’ll have to wait at least a month for it even to be acknowledged. Got a HR query? Make that more than 2 months, if you get a response at all. Late sending me a P60 form by almost a month, and well past the government enforced deadline. Only sent it after they were prompted by me. Upper management honestly couldn’t care less about you as a human or individual. Working here was a very stark reminder that everyone is replaceable. Dropped from my role too quickly and too easily.
