Pros

Very flexible position due to lack of sufficient oversight. If you want to do nothing for a week you could just tell people you were busy and it would never be checked.

Cons

Culture - very negative culture, no one enjoys working and it is a very profit driven environment. There is a real lack of respect for colleagues. Progression - in this role they said many things during the interview about progression which turned out to be untrue. There was no progression available and in fact the job was significantly more menial than advertised. Even when I approached management with suggestions of what could be improved I was simply told that I needed to bide my time (5 to 10 years) before gaining more responsibility. I think they struggle to understand the ambitious millennial mindset, Hierarchy - it is a very heirarchical organisation and often you will be very subordinate to people less qualified than yourself. Delegation is intensely downward and done in an uncooperative manner. Engineering Management - there are some very unpleasant characters in the management of this team. The billab,e time culture also seems to bring out the worst in people. Job Role - in the end the role was that of a secretary or PA to the most unpleasant and rude old men (consultants) who no one else wished to deal with in the company. Turnover rate for this role over the last year is roughly 50%. Those who remain are unanimously searching for jobs right now.

Thank you for posting on HKA's Glassdoor site. I note that you posted as a former employee back in October 2018. I am sorry that we are only now replying to your post. HKA is a continuous improvement organization and we recently decided that every post on HKA’s Glassdoor will be replied to. We do value different opinions and look to learn from them too. As you would expect me to say, HKA has evolved and improved much since October 2018. I respect that when you posted these were your views; notwithstanding that, I see HKA very differently to you. I joined HKA in April 2020 and therefore my opinion is based on the last 14 months. I am sorry that you do not feel you had a good experience in HKA. If you would ever like to connect with me to follow up on anything, you are most welcome. My email address is katewood@hka.com I know you will see my points below differently from your experience back in 2018 – today, June 2021, HKA: 1. is a great place to work. The culture is very collaborative, friendly, positive, respectful and we are passionate about clients, our people, and continuous improvement. Our people stay at HKA and enjoy working together as one team 2. delights in promoting our brilliant people. HKA is in growth mode so promotional opportunities are there as well as opportunities to join HKA 3. has a very high retention rate of our talented and diverse people, which is wonderful. In addition, our colleagues are referring in new people to join HKA 4. has a flat structure where sharing freely your opinions is encouraged. We know ideas come from everyone so we want to hear and listen to our colleagues 5. have a very strong Engineering Team. We have a super team who work well together there. We certainly do not tolerate any bad behaviour towards any colleagues. In my role as Chief People Officer, where my passion is our people, I would jump on anything inappropriate. Thank you again for posting. I trust you are well, particularly during this pandemic. Best regards Kate Wood Partner, Chief People Officer.

Pros

Continuing Education is supported. Has a strong team that works well together with strong mentorship. Good place to learn the business. Office location is very good. Projects are big and satisfying. For the first time in my career I was sad to resign.

Cons

They have moved away from defined salary packages. A promotion seldom means higher pay. Benefits get worst every year. People feel like they are not appriciated. My slowest career development was in HKA. However, I have learned so much while I was employed that it was not a set back to my career at all.

Thank you for scoring HKA with 4 stars out of 5 and for sharing your opinions as a former employee in Dubai. I realise you posted in July 2018 and I am replying to you in June 2021. Sincere apologies that we are only now replying to you. HKA is a continuous improvement organisation and we recently added replying to every HKA Glassdoor post as we do value opinions and look to learn from them. Thank you for posting positive Pros. You mentioned good support for ongoing education/learning, strong teams that work well together with good mentorship with big and satisfying projects. Thank you. Today, June 2021, we are retaining our brilliant people and we are growing and improving as a global professional services firm - which is very exciting and enjoyable. You noted also some Cons from your perspective. I respect these are your views and of course HKA has evolved and improved since July 2018; so perhaps unsurprisingly I see HKA differently to the list of Cons. My experience is:- - promotions come with decent salary increases and good recognition. We relish promoting talented colleagues and rewarding them - benefits are improving as we listen and consider what our colleagues value - our people are appreciated. We have brilliant people working at HKA who pull together to deliver for clients and for each other. I see leaders recognising and truly appreciating our people. I work very closely with our Continent Heads and our People Director based in Dubai and they passionately care and appreciate our people. I note that you worked at HKA for over three years. Thank you so much for your contributions to making HKA a great place to work. I hope you are well and safe, particularly during this pandemic. I also trust you are enjoying your career wherever you are now. Thank you again. Best regards Kate Wood Partner, Chief People Officer

Pros

outstanding leadership and executive management - very focused on the new company's core values, transparency, and fairness; a new company also needs a few years to shake-down process and procedure and get it right; the firm is looking to grow 50% over the next 5 years - big growth plans for the company translates into good opportunities for career development and growth for strong performers; employees here are all-stars and HKA asks a lot from them; I like everyone I've met from this company - they seem to be quite pleased with being here and where the firm is headed;

Cons

don't expect to work 40-hour work weeks if your goal is to be a star and move up fast; those with multiple languages and willing to travel (not me) are getting excellent opportunities; competitive but also collaborative - working here demands your A game - it's not for coasters;

Thank you so much for recommending HKA and giving 5 stars with a positive outlook. I note you posted in May 2018 as a current Senior Manager. Firstly sincere apologies that we are only now replying to your post. As you will know HKA has evolved and improved much since then and one of our continuous improvements programmes is to reply to all of our posts on Glassdoor. Your Pros listed in May 2018 are most positive and optimistic for the future. I agree with your Cons, that working hard does pay off in HKA and that can mean more that 40 hours a week - I know we also care about the health and wellbeing of our people; so long hours are not sustainable . I was also delighted to read that you saw HKA has collaborative, which is my experience too. Thank you also for your Advice to Management around defining Partner Track and employee benefits - all very sensible and constructive points. I know we have improved in those areas since you posted last. You will know that HKA is not a complacent firm and we push the boundaries for continuous improvement. I can still see room for us to improve and as everyone collaborates and we have brilliant people; we make big leaps regularly. Thank you for your help. I trust you are keeping safe and well during this pandemic. Thank you so much again. Best regards Kate Wood Partner, Chief People Officer
