Pros

When you first join IGS, usually through an 'outsourcing deal', expectations of career advancement run very high. However, as time goes on, these hopes are slowly and methodically squashed. One day you wake up and realize you work for "little blue" and thus considered an unwanted stepchild of the real "Big Blue" IBM, which I hear is a nice place to work.

Cons

Raises, most often below the rate of inflation, are few and far between. Benefits, like most everywhere else, are dwindiling. The company can no longer afford a decent benefit package because of the poor management decisions made in the past. Starting out as a person that very much enjoyed technical activities, I now create superflouous paperwork and engage in meaningless tasks that appear to be adding value in the eyes of my customer. CYA is the name of the game. If IBM looks good, then all is well, right?

Pros

Flexibility. You can work from home and live anywhere.

Cons

A HUGE percentage of the jobs are being oursourced to other countries. There is little funding for employee education. This is not a people company anymore. They just want you to work overtime all the time. There is constantly this unspoken message that you better be happy that you have a job because we can outsource your job any day now.

Pros

Work/Life balance options are mostly pretty good. If you're non-exempt and in a position that can get some overtime hours or carries a pager, the pay isn't horrible.

Cons

Very poor senior management treatment of lower rung employees. Nearly all technical workers are now non-exempt (hourly). The big push is to globalize resources to areas with cheaper labor rates. American technical employees are second class citizens and liabilities. Due to these issues, morale in the company is dreadful and getting anything done is pretty much impossible. The other large issue in Services is that Sales is under the gun to sell as much software as possible and we are always stuck trying to deliver the promises.
