      Pros

      Great work-life balance as many IBMers are family-oriented and the work is not demanding like a startup. Opportunities to brainstorm and file patents. Teams like the design studio, mobile innovation lab, or security have challenging and fun work/culture, but most of Austin IBM working on the chip/cloud is lowkey energy and monotomous without challenging work. The reputation of IBM goes a long way on the resume. Paid conference trips if you present or help with the booth.

      Cons

      Potential stagnation of career due to legacy technology and prioritization of stability over innovation. Most teams lack the zest and drive you'll find in small engineering teams at startups. Austin 9xx and 045 offices are drab and are unpleasant to work in.
