Pros

KPMG has an excellent reputation in the market, and is making solid progress to becoming the top Big 4 Firm. There are a breadth of opportunities within the organization, and there is solid support in terms of training and career development. Having KPMG on your resume can definitely lead to great opportunities down the road - as they say, "KPMG is a great place to start your career".

Cons

Unfortunately, the benefits of KPMG come at a pretty high price, especially as you move up in level. There is a very cut-throat culture internally, especially within the Advisory practice. Team building and cross-functional cooperation is almost non-existent. You are remembered more for your deficits than for your accomplishments. KPMG is trying desperately to provide some structure and process around its go to market approach, but a pervasive territorial mentality is making it very difficult.

Pros

Good employment environment, opportunity for advancement, opportunity for business travel. KPMG has leading global companies as its clients. It is great to work on real business issues for major clients. KPMG also provides excellent training opportunities. The firm feels like a good meritocracy, where your effort is recognized and rewarded. Also, the company supports diversity initiatives and has a global rotation program so you can get experience in different business communities around the world.

Cons

Performance expectations are very high, time demands are high. Clients have high expectations for our work, and it often means that we have to put in extra hours on the evenings/weekends.

Pros

Great place to start a career and learn a lot in a short period of time. The exposure you gain to various companies' processes, cultures, and senior leadership is priceless for a young professional.

Cons

The culture of a large partnership is slow to change and can be difficult to deal with sometimes. The firm still battles with "kingdom-building" in some areas, where partners are absolute rulers; regardless of what the official firm initiative at the time is. Sometimes it feels like decisions are made in a vacuum without any real knowledge about what is going on on the ground, and because we are a private company, the majority of employees have no real idea about how the firm is perfoming financially.
