Pros

Higher rate of pay than many retailers, but unfortunately when working it out, 24k/annum for a 70 hour week is very poor. Fast progression within the company if you're an autocratic sociopath who wants to give their life and soul to a faceless, monstrous discount supermarket chain

Cons

Horribly understaffed, leading to being landed in trouble for not getting everything done despite often leaving 3 hours late and hence being unable to have any sort of social life. Recent productivity targets have worsened this situation. Very top down autocratic management, lacking in compassion and humanity. Very lengthy recruitment process, amazingly they seem to put a lot of resources into carefully recruiting managers but make no effort to retain them. Company loves systems and set ways of doing every tiny thing. Kills any hope of creativity and individuality. Awful meat grinder of a place that has claimed the souls of so many - the managers have glazed over eyes and lack any humour due to years of being demoralised.

Pros

work conditions have improved a lot for the last 3 -4 years with the introduction of PZE (timing of work to the minute), introduction of a staff discount.

Cons

The productivity is still increasing and the pressure is mounting. The staff level is skeleton to say the least, the management is more an slave driving culture rather than to devellop staff. The targets are very hard to achieve, Staff are not considered as people more than machine. ABOVE ALL the culture of lying about how we manage the business is endemic and doesn't show any sign of disappearing. Every member of staff are trained and forced to tell what the head office want to hear

Pros

The salary and holidays were good. I enjoyed working at the central distribution centre as it was interesting and busy so the days went fast.

Cons

Horrible culture with very despicable people in management and senior management.
