Pros

There are probably worse places to work as a Finance professional Decent work/life balance, entirely dependent on function and segment of company

Cons

No training Company is now being VERY stingy with promotions Performance review process is not transparent Slow pace Conservative culture Low salary for job description and location Dearth of opportunities not related to Earned Value Management, which is not a skill transferable to any other industry worth mentioning

Pros

Strong solid company that is stable for the most part. As long as the government is somewhat stable. There are a lot of intelligent people that work there and the work life balance is very manageable at the Individual Contributor level. If you want a good stable job with good experience this is a great environment.

Cons

Typical Cons of a Government Contractor. Culture is very slow moving and you sometimes have to work with unmotivated employees. The annual increases are relatively low and you have to fight for any increases outside the normal cycle. Promotions are typically based on years of experience instead of performance unless you make a good relationship with a manager that has power. Management is very political and this gets in the way of the teams trying to do work.

Pros

LM has a 9/80 schedule which is so convenient! The hours are great - OT is only needed for special projects and end-of-year closing. Each month we can accrue 10 hours of vacation time, and this never expires. Another perk of this company is how easy it is to talk to upper management. This has improved over the last several years.

Cons

The insurance benefits could definitely be better. I have heard the coverage use to be better, but now it covers less. For people with children on their insurance, it almost feels like the insurance is useless. Another disadvantage is the time it takes to get a promotion. Going from a level 1 to a level 2 takes about 4 years, and from a level 2 to a level 3 takes even longer.
