Pros

Lockheed Martin carries one of the heaviest pedigrees within the engineering industry. As an intern you will receive a generous salary along with certain benefits that include relocation expense compensation and an opportunity to attend, with all other LM interns, a symposium in Norfolk, VA where you get a chance to see some of LM's more recent and up and and coming products. Great intern experience and a great name to have on your resume. Overall, a great place to work for.

Cons

Huge company where all employees are carrying a significant share of the workload. Consequently, those in charge of you don't have enough time to delegate tasks to their interns and, as an intern, you tend to sit around and twittle your thumbs.

Pros

Ethical culture, emphasis on work-life balance, opportunity to engage in a variety of learning experiences. I'm most proud of the community orientation -- the emphasis on volunteerism, the money the company invests in basic research with a variety of universites, and the real contributions toward K-12 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

Cons

The company is shrinking now, partly due to externalities and partly due to a lack of substantive actions on long-term strategic sustainability issues. It is a generally unpleasant work environment. I hope that this will improve as the economy improves, but right now I see nothing more than lip service toward strategic issues: more agile product development, workforce development, or addressing competitors and new entrants to the market. Company appears to be following the path of "How the Mighty Fall" as Jim Collins describes. Diversity initiatives fall flat. Serious pay equity issues abound. HR is a broken organization - it does not act as a strategic partner to the business. Instead, the HR organization makes arbitrary nonsensical decisions, is a barrier to hiring appropriately to the business needs, and retaining the right people.

Pros

Lockheed Martin is a very diverse company with excellent benefits. Of the places that I have worked, Lockheed is the only place that I have not complained about low salary or poor compensation.

Cons

For advancement Lockheed places heavy emphasis on networking. In theory, this may appear to be the proper approach, but in reality it is not. This concepts lends to favoritism versus technical knowledge. As it has been said on numerous occassions "it is not what you know, but who you know".
