Pros

Relatively immune from recession; good tuition reimbursement program for grad school, location, fairly decent health care; low stress, no working nights/weekends/Friday afternoon (usually); lax dress code (if you're in engineering, at least)

Cons

Because of how Lockheed Martin grew (acquisition), working at some of the business units just doesn't feel like working at a Fortune 500 company. It feels like you work at...whatever was there before it was acquired. Additionally, chances are that you will be completely isolated from every other business unit and site. Transferring from one business unit to another, or one site to another, is NOT as easy as it sounds -- one pretty much has to threaten to leave the company to do so. The worst feeling is the feeling that technology is just passing you by - we use software until it goes end of life. It's just not a "cool" place to work, but you already knew that. Incompetent employees are shifted around or even promoted. Lots of talk about horizontal integration, but virtually no action.

Pros

It is a steady job...while you have a contract. In my experience it is a very flexible place to work - each vacation request I submitted has been approved, sometimes with only a week's notice. Four weeks of vacation a year when you walk in the door is nice as well. Once in, it is hard to get booted from all I have seen.

Cons

The work is uninteresting, and the company is so big that your work rarely matters. Pay is low, industry-wise. The company is very top-heavy, and as they try to remedy this promotions are becoming harder to get.

Pros

If you do not want much responsibility you should work here. I just did not like it because I did not like working for the government. I do not really believe in the war so I did not see myself working comfortably on missiles and defense systems.I worked for the HIMARS missile and defense launcher program and it was okay. The people were very nice and polite but again I do not have much to say about what I liked. Unless you do not want to work much for your money, but when I got an offer it was low.

Cons

Again I will say I just did not like it because I did not like working for the government. I do not really believe in the war so I did not see myself working comfortably on missiles and defense systems. Low pay but I guess the area of living and cost of living is low. I hated Texas also. Everyone has a typical Texas attitude. I did not like how comfortable people were working on missiles and fire control. It was almost creepy to me that no one thought it was a little intense. Not my type of work place.
