Pros

Good leadership development program, if you can get in. Performance reviews are structured and timely. Lots of opportunities to move to other positions in the company for career development.

Cons

It helps to be well-connected to get ahead, and definitely a must when your contract ends, if you want to stay in the company. At contract end, most employees are on their own to find other work with little or no help from management or HR. Internal hiring process is broken - you rarely hear back from bids on requisitions, which are usually wired for someone else or out of date. So it's easier to find work outside the company. No reimbursements for parking, transportation or professional memberships.

Pros

The flexibility in getting your required hours in. The excellent tuition reimbursement package as well pension and 401K matching. The company provides multiple growth opportunities for its employees and the ability to rotate around through multiple lines of business and programs. Working for the premier defense company allows for exciting work experiences that one would not normally get through his or her job. Plus, all employees know that their work directly impacts the national security of this country. Your work certainly feeds the soul and makes the hard work all that more rewarding.

Cons

The huge bureaucracy and multiple levels of management can be quite a drag on work production and program efficiency. The range in the quality of managers is rather wide. It sometimes begs the question as to how this person or that came into the position that they hold.

Pros

I suppose career advancement if you are starting out. The help desk environment is a great place to start for someone that wants to get into customer relations and understanding the beginning PC user to the Network adminstrator side. Working with the customer is the most satisfying part of the job because they do appreciate you.

Cons

Prima donnas galore, constant back biting between contractors and the U.S. Army recruiting command the main customer for LM at Fort Knox. Pay is the major downside. The place called the SOC (Service Oversight Center) in the basement of building 1307, the aforementioned USAREC. Pay started at 11 or 12 bucks an hour!! When working as a network admin was only at 16.50. People that had been there 5 years were only making 45K or 50K. Pretty piss poor for major responsibilites eh? The time to get on post is a major factor in job satisfaction it can take 30 or 40 minute to get through security. The town outside of post is called Radcliff, an armpit of a place, the only decent little town nearby is Elizabethtown, also now a major motion picture haha. 30 minutes just to get to the gate in the morning and its just 10 miles. Otherwise Louisville is 25 miles up the road but traffic is heavy. On the good side. Well there isn't one.
