Some very interesting technology to work on; lots of applied research. Get time to do a proper engineering job without "fast-paced" nonsensicalities Stable positive-feeling organisation, plenty of scope to make career progress Good pastoral side to management generally. Worthwhile public service ethos-type work in an unstable world.

Cons

Some quite slow outdated management processes. Lack of professional project managers to coordinate big projects... As a result you can be left marooned with large responsibilities and little guidance apart from a chorus of irrelevant nit-picking sometimes.
