      Work For a UK Leading Defence Company Based in Lancashire

      Pros

      - Innovative engineered products - Values driven company which looks after its staff - Reward and recognition scheme is very good, especially pension scheme - Subsidised canteen which offers fresh food every day at low prices - Excellent training and career development opportunities - Friendly atmosphere with helpful colleagues - Very healthy sales order book with plenty of engineering projects for the future - Proactive innovation and r & d function, Spark Works are awesome - Structured & process driven engineering team which I really like - Rob in recruitment team was very helpful during the onboarding process - Good management structure in place

      Cons

      - It is a large business so very different environment to SME so has been a bit of an adjustment from my previous roles in much smaller businesses - There are a lot of doors to go through when moving around the site, although it is a defence company so to be expected - Some of the systems can take a bit of time to get used to but generally ok - SC clearance can take a bit of time to come through which results in a slightly longer recruitment process but I did receive regular comms throughout so wasn't too bad to be fair. Again it is a pre-requisite requirement if working for a defence company.

      Very good company to work for

      Pros

      Benefits package, nice office, nice friendly people, everyone is polite, mix of different age groups, great staff restaurant and café (subsidised prices), lots of training available to learn new skills or brush up on them. Job stability (I hope) due to growing business. Colleagues are very happy to help new starters to get them settled in and answer questions.

      Cons

      Very long application period due to high level of vetting that most jobs here require (about 10 to 12 weeks wait) but the preliminary job offer comes 2-3 weeks after the interview subject to vetting. There are roughly 20 mandatory training courses to do (ranging from 30 mins to 2 days each) plus a further 20 I was asked to do relating to my role (could be less for other job roles) which initially is overwhelming but you have a few months to do them in, On the positive side it shows the company values equipping staff with the right knowledge and supporting personal development.
