The organization I worked for was very technically untalented. The team did not have fundamental backgrounds in computer science and it showed. There was also an over reliance on off shore teams to do a majority of the work which is done in an extremely sloppy manner. There are no code conventions causing the code base to be a complete disaster.
Also being an Application Engineer is the lowest paying job title in a technical position. Couple that with being in a low cost of living area and the income they offer isn't even competitive with the rest of the market.
