Pros

- The benefits were reasonable and the building had great facilities. Ideal place for questioning my life choices and practicing crying really quietly in a dark toilet cubicle. - On the bright side, I tried it. I now have absolute clarity that a career in publishing would shorten my lifespan by at least 10 years. - The professional growth was unique: I developed resilience, high blood pressure (it was too low before the job so I am thankful), and a detailed mental draft of a future novel that will require an extremely careful legal-read.

Cons

- The pay was… aspirational. Especially considering the workload and the extortionate location of central London. - Diversity appeared to be more of a theoretical concept. God forbid you have different needs. - A thriving culture of schmoozing. I was helpfully informed that career progression depended less on what you do and more on who do you flatter enough to remember your name. Meritocracy is alive and well! - I suspect I got particularly lucky with a micro-manager who was hoping to recruit a “mini-me” and instead got the deeply inconvenient reality of individuality. Reviews were mixed. - Training mostly consisted of an overworked colleague doing their best, visibly questioning their life choices, supported by documentation that seemed a few years out of date. - At this point, it feels only fair that I submit my therapy invoices as business expenses. Vibes were off, chat.

Pros

Having worked in the Data team, I can say I have learned a lot from my peers and they are very hardworking. For such a small team, they are expected to deliver alot and they often do.. unfortunately this can lead to burn out and poor morale.

Cons

PRH has had repeated complaints about being a psychologically unsafe place to work. What do I mean by this? Ignorant, racist and inappropriate sexual remarks are made and shockingly the senior management don't really do anything about it. They have checked out and like to make a 'training day' on how to make work a safe place rather than take real action when incidents occur.

Pros

Benefits and time off are about it.

Cons

Toxic upper management. Group Leaders are over worked and underpaid. Upper management worries too much about fixing things that aren't even broken & then proceeds to neglect actual issues that should be focused on instead. They will ask for employee feedback but 99% of the time they already have a decision made about things before even asking the employees. You have to be a yes man with no back bone to make it here. Say yes to every single command that comes down the pipeline, and don’t dare have a different opinion about how something should be done—it will be immediately shot down. Upper management absolutely will not take your job knowledge into account so preventative issues occur. then you, who warned them about potential issues are expected to fix whatever problem you were attempting to prevent in the first place. but once again, they wouldn’t listen. Rinse & repeat until retirement.
