- Upper management is extremely anal/OCD about the way the store is kept.
- Carol Jenkins Barnett uses money from Publix to fund her own special interest lobbying efforts
- This attitude and pressure trickles down to store managers and individual workers as well. (Everyone gets chewed out regularly) - it also means closing the store takes forever.
- Workers expected to provide perfect customer service and high productivity even if time is lost when several customers pull them away for help
- LOW Worker morale (have encountered more than 3 people in break room debating whether they should quit before clocking in)
- If you have a closing shift (anything till 11pm) be prepared to be there until 1:30 am or later most days (they do not mention this in training).
- Also be prepared to close one day and open the day after (this is a very common practice, especially if you are part time).
- If you don't have a closing shift, be prepared to be asked to close.
- Work life balance is abysmal
- Benefits and stock options are touted as great, but Publix management will work hard to ensure you are just under the # of hours that would qualify you for any benefits whatsoever.
Publix employees are forced to put on a smile but the oppressive workplace is very draining and it shows in their tired and depressed faces.
