Pros

- training budgets available for those who ask - decent compensation, excellent benefits and decent bonus system - decent work/life balance - excellent project management practices and opportunity to learn formal project management - decent reward mechanisms for rewarding employee successes; can be mechanical at times within IT - great place for mid 30s MBAs who want a career in financial services

Cons

- very slow moving organization when it comes to technology change; follower not a leader - high involuntary turnover for those over 50, happens every few years - IT services have been constantly outsourced to overseas; requiring fewer local staff - high;y political organization; make sure you develop internal networks and know who your friends are - slow corporate advancement; too many people competing for senior jobs - wide variation in people management of senior management, executives; either great or really bad - mistakes can be career enders; leads to people hiding their mistakes - less transparency - internal movement to other positions could be a career ender with your current boss - when projects complete you will need to find your next job internally; don't count on anyone to do it for you
