Mixed bag... some very good things, some disappointments...

Pros

Exposure to wonderful people in sci and tech, great flexibility with hours and location of work, and good salary level. Some leaders in the company have terrific ideas. Very solid client satisfaction in most cases.

Cons

Very hierarchical leadership structure leads to significant redundancy and confusion. Feeling that SAIC does not behave as an agile sci & tech company should.... needed changes tend to occur at a glacial pace.

Good technical reputation. Opportunity and resources to "redeploy" when work runs out. Diverse kinds of work. Respect for a diverse workforce.

Cons

Mostly defense work in the backlog, but defense work has uncertain prospects. One of the largest defene firms in the country but still learning how to act big.

Pros

Very good benefits and ability to make decisions at lower management levels. Corporate culture encourages employees to work hard and be responsible. The culture also allows for a lot of independence in how work is done and what work schedule you adhere to. If you are getting the work done, no one questions where or when you work. Customer ratings drive the length of leash you have.

Cons

Company mainly provides engineering services with a marginal market share of hardware production (better profit margin). Promotion opportunities can be limiting depending on the organization you are in. Some organizations have a lot of longtime employees and upward movement can be slow if they are given preference due to seniority.
