Pros

Many of the programs are high-tech, defense related, and can be pretty interesting. There are lots of smart people to interact with and learn from.

Cons

Overhead is a 4-letter word, so training/retraining, conferences and the like are minimal. If you're on a direct contract, you're OK until it ends; then you're pretty much on your own to find other work. Hire and layoff are the standard staffing procedures.

Pros

Very flexible work place (this is really up to my division - not the company as a whole). Good benefits.

Cons

Poor salaries for newer / younger employees. Times were much better in the years before the company went public, and the raises the older workers got were MUCH higher. Therefore, there is now a de-facto two-tier pay system - one for those there before the company went public, and one for those who began their career afterwards. The older employers make a good 30% premium all other things remaining equal.
