Pros

SAIC is a well established company with a lot of procedures and protocols in place to make learning the company ethics and new policy's very straightforward. Most teams are very diverse experience wise, so there is great opportunity to work with several higher-ups - and that face time can be advantageous to future growth on a career experience level. The opportunity to be a "jack of all trades" is present and one can learn a lot of different things in a very short amount of time. Reviews are given on a regular basis with raise, and providing the team does well, bonus are given yearly. The company also has an amazing dining area and gym within the facility.

Cons

The learning curve to get started on most projects is very intense. The work given completely exceeds the amount that any one person can do in a work week. Company laptops are often given, specifically so that one can take their work home, making the amount of overtime put in, upwards of 20 additional hours per week. Most management are former military, and are genuinely there to make money and not friends; so they are not very nice. The significant number of men to women workers also makes it somewhat difficult to work with if you are female. Projects are often very large and dynamic, and you only ever get to see a very small portion of that project. This makes it difficult to see the whole picture and to feel that your specific work is purposeful. There is also limited positive feedback.

Pros

There are a LOT of people who have worked here a long time - you'll find that the level of knowledge in any one subject is VERY deep because there are teams of people who've been working in a similar part of an industry for a very long time. There's also a very real effort made to find coverage for existing employees if they are losing coverage on another project.

Cons

It's a very big company, so it's sometimes a bit difficult to be extremely agile, and make things happen quickly.

Pros

Hard work is compensated. Opportunity abounds. It just takes initiative, hard work, and intelligence to have a good career at SAIC. These are some of the brightest, most ambitious employees I have ever had the pleasure to work with. The company does not tolerate "dead wood." They will fire or lay off employees who are not productive.

Cons

The company is always focused on the numbers. When the numbers are bad, overhead is cut. There is not much cushion to allow employees to find billable work when things are tight. The company will lay you off if you do not have direct, billable work.
