Pros

Career tracks and paths are well established. Company "brand" recognition is positive and the company’s reputation is very good. Stock prices are hanging in there in these tough times, also. And, what SAIC lacks in middle management, they make up for with superb top level management. Ken Dahlberg is first rate. Right up there with Jack Welch.

Cons

SAIC is a large company with a widely dispersed organizational structure. BUT this is all made up of individual people with very different work and management styles. You can work for SAIC and have experiences that are totally different from anyone else. Wildly different –in fact, depending on the project, the deliverables and the customer. I don't really think there IS a "typical" SAIC employee experience. Certainly there is no great SAIC management in the sky door at which all decisions are made. Leadership / Policy / Strategy = YES. Management / Procedures / Tactics – NOT so much.

Pros

The management at SAIC is always working to improve the life their employees. There is an abundance of opportunities for advancement and plenty of new business to be had with all the Army research and development that goes on in this area. They have a great program for professional development, they will reimburse the cost of college, and professional certifications. They have a great HR department who is very helpful in all aspects. They have a very flexible work schedule, as long as 80 hours are completed in the pay period it is fine.

Cons

The benefits package is run of the mill.

Pros

The company is gaining more "brand name" recognition in the marketplace. They hold a lot of lucrative long-term contracts. And they will sponsor you to get a security clearance, which is a good asset to have. Right now the only thing keeping me here is a decent salary (by metro DC standards).

Cons

Poor management. Ineffective leadership. Nonexistent client relationship management skills. Headquarters personnel who show no interest in what people in the "trenches" at client work sites are actually going through. Most of SAIC's work is performed by highly competent people (and some very incomponent but well-connected people) with technical and business smarts. However the division managers and business unit heads, most of whom are salespeople with no real skills, pay little mind to what the on-the-ground contractors have to say.
