Pros

My experience with Dell SecureWorks as a company has been tremendous. I've been treated very well and I honestly get paid to essentially be myself, which is amazing. I work remotely, I set my own hours, my cell phone is paid for, my internet is paid for, I get to travel a lot. I also travel whenever and wherever personally. As long as everything is being handled with case work and the client is happy, management rarely bothers me. The only thing they've told me since I've worked here is, "You're doing great, keep doing what you are doing!"

Cons

The things I don't like about being here is that the company is getting larger and larger very quickly, and with Dell acquiring EMC the company will basically double in size. This is natural for business, but it makes me feel more like a number or an ant. Not that I wasn't already a number working for Dell, but I had a personal connection with Dell since my parents used to work for Dell when I was in school. Working for Dell SecureWorks when I started it didn't feel large because I could easily talk to everyone on my team and get to know people in other divisions. Another thing, and this probably only relates to consulting, I can never stop thinking about work. Even when I'm on break, I'll think about client work and what needs to be done. My mind never shuts off, but this is what I signed up for, and it fits my lifestyle very well. I've been extremely happy working here and don't see myself going anywhere from here. For Christ sake, I work remotely and conduct client meetings in my Pajamas in bed lol. How can life get any better?

Excellent company to work at as an engineer

Pros

SecureWorks is a wholly (soon to be partially) owned subsidiary of DELL, made up of a number of security startups that merged. Due to this, it has engineers and managers in different locations, Atlanta, Providence, Myrtle Beach, Edinburgh, Austin, and Hyderabad being the main ones. As such, nearly all team meetings are held on the phone. * Engineering culture is quite positive * Remote work is not only welcome, it is nearly expected * There is still a small company feeling about the place * Work life balance is reasonably respected * Sometimes fascinating work in the security industry

Cons

* SecureWorks is justifiably paranoid about being hacked. Expect to have to file a ticket to be given permission to tie your shoe. * PMs are all completely overloaded. Don't expect any question to be answered in less than a week if at all. * Climb any higher than senior or principal engineer, and the politics become completely opaque and sometimes brutal. * Development centers scattered through different timezones can mean meetings at odd (early morning) hours
