Pros

The benefits and compensation are excellent for individuals looking to kick-start their career. There are a lot of opportunities for learning and growth. The coworkers that work for you and with you are amazing people with great life stories. The kind of work you engage in is strenuous, so bonds are formed pretty rapidly. One can be proud to work for Target considering the good the company has done for humanitarian causes. There are plenty of opportunities for charity work sponsored by the company.

Cons

The math for this position always adds up to more than what is stated. Three 12-hour days are three 16-hour days. Four 10-hour days are four 14-hour days. The three day managers usually have at least one off day that they have to come in to conduct interviews or be part of a team meeting. There is an expectation that you are available even when on vacation to respond to work calls/email. The scope of your work is very narrow. Most of what you do is coaching, following up on safety violations, and completing continuous improvement checklists. The dedication level management expects from their employees is absolute. I did not know anyone with family there that had not sacrificed their time for work.

Pros

1. Super friendly place to work 2. Work life balance (as long as you like schedule); partners/SOM work with you 3. Pays decently for what it is; your title is an Operations Manager but your really doing the work of a supervisor in this function 4. Easy job, honestly the easiest job I have ever had look at cons for explanation

Cons

1. The schedule does take some getting use to but you have the option of 3 day weekend or having 4 days during the week 2. They are in the process of trying to have a lean/six sigma mindset but it’s really behind on a lot of levels; A. Majority of your peers (ie other OM, SOM) do not have a technical background B. Systems are outdated and no easy way to gather information and corporate seems not to be bothered by this C. Senior management seems all over the place, no sense of direction and always answers in values ways which doesn’t make sense when your trying to change culture mindset to six sigma D. Uses the crutch of constantly changing as an excuse for miscommunication/poor planning across all departments E. No clear message to what expectations are as OMs seems like everyone use the reason why they didn’t hit plan with clear message to solve the problem other than buzz words from senior team F. Hire people with technical backgrounds maybe you still start to head in the right direction
