Pros

The sky is the limit. Tremendous amount of opportunity. Cutting edge technology. Ability to carve out a career with multiple facets within the same company is unheard of - at UPS you can do this. Training for FT supervisors is excellent if taken advantage of. Many excellent employees both hourly and management. Very good Corporate Vision. Very good Corporate Citizen.

Cons

UPS has a problem executing at all levels; Corporate ideals not played out on the local level at all times. Message given by Corporate is often contradicted by the time it reaches the district level. UPS operates much like a Federal and State system of governance. Each District is accountable to Corporate but has flexibility in how it accomplishes goals. Methods of accountability fosters and rewards "erronious reporting of numbers" and often mistakenly reinforces "the ends justifying the means." This is not intentional but it is widespread. UPS is a company that focus is on numbers and loses sight of the larger picture at times. UPS has a strong Union presence (Teamsters) and it does make the business struggle to maintain a profit and productivity. There is a "them versus me" mentality that doesn't work on either side of the fence. UPS has a serious problem with how they treat all employees. There is no such thing as "work life balance" at UPS. The hours are very demanding: scheduled 50/week with actual hours worked almost always 60-70+ depending upon your position. Expectation of 24/7 availability with holiday and weekend work expected also. Wage and benefits plan no longer premier.

Pros

Job security - UPS does not typically lay off unless you commit a cardinal sin (i.e. stealing etc). However, this means that there are a lot of people around that are not competent but still remain around.

Cons

All work is based on politics - if you dont spend a lot of time kissing but versus working your job, you will go nowhere in this place.
